With a desperate decline of craft skills that are required to repair, maintain and conserve our built heritage, Laing Traditional Masonry has made it their business to support the future generation of craftspeople while rediscovering the use of traditional materials.
A new millennium demands a new breed of journeymen and LTM's Building Conservation Technicians are a new generation of Twenty First Century repairers, specialising in lime mortars and stone.
LTM's philosophy is to train as we are trained and educate as we are educated. While our annual apprentice scheme benefits from Historic Scotland's exemplary training centre base at Elgin Cathedral, we have also developed an in-house education programme. This is essential in assisting with our increasing clientele requirements and preserves our high standards of work.
Over recent years Laing Traditional Masonry has hosted students on a variety of programmes, including the Historic Scotland Building Conservation Fellowship scheme, the Quinque programme (USA), the Society for the Protection of Historic Building (SPAB) Scholar and fellowship and other Craft Guilds from across mainland Europe.
