Stonemasonry Apprentices will undergo a 4 year apprenticeship with 3 years block release education at Historic Scotland's Training Centre at Elgin Cathedral. They will assist in the day to day running of their designated project. Stonemasons should be enthusiastic, willing to learn and committed to their chosen career. They should care for there buildings, the workplace and environment around them.
Stonemasonry Apprentices should be aiming to develop their general site duties and knowledge followed by progressing hand skill at their own pace, however promoting earliest possible contribution to their colleagues when possible.
They should look to the welfare and health and safety of themselves and others around them.
They should have the ability to request or comply with clear instruction and training.
An initial start up tool kit will be provided by LTM, however it will be the responsibility of the employee student to develop their hand tool kit until a adequate collection is achieved. It is essential for tools to be comprehensive, cleaned and maintained after use for undertaking fine craftsmanship. They should dress in and maintain, as clean as possible, the uniform and personal protective equipment issued by LTM.
