Stonemasons will have completed a masonry apprenticeship or hold similar craft qualification or experience.
They will have to continuously demonstrate a complete understanding of masonry within their specialist craft. To work within a masonry conservation company they should also have a complete understanding of or be interested in learning the use of traditional lime mortars, their differences, use in traditional buildings and benefits over modern materials.
They should be aiming for specialising in their chosen skills area by means of unique training supported by LTM.
They must possess and maintain an extensive collection of adequate tools for their craft. Stonemasons should have an extensive understanding of health and safety issues and be experienced in either setting out, dressing, building, conservation or all.
